This is my fourth year at Waverly High School! I absolutely loved working with WHS students the past three years! During my first 20 years in education, I spent 13 years at Lincoln Southwest High School and 7 years at Mickle Middle School in Lincoln. Beyond the walls of my classroom, I serve as a graduate instructor at UNL, a college statistics and college algebra instructor at Nebraska Wesleyan, a math methods instructor at Union College, and a reviewer for the National Science Foundation. This fall I will be teaching college stats and college algebra for NWU.
From my Gallup Strengths Finder activity, my top 3 strengths include Deliberative, Maximizer, and Strategic. Thus, these come natural to me. On the flip side some of my weaker areas are Empathy, Individualization, and Relator. I intentionally focus on these weaknesses so that I’m a more balanced educator for the students of District 145.
As I combine my strengths with my attention to my weaknesses, I am better able to serve. Here at WHS, I like to be involved with The Crew and get to as many athletic and extra-curricular activities as I can! I am the Quiz Bowl Coach, the co-sponsor for Student Council, and the mathematics department chair. Two years ago I helped implement 2 highly rigorous mathematics courses: Differentiated Geometry and College Statistics.
I try to update my Daily Assignment Logs on a daily basis. This log is place where students and parents can see what happened in class and what should be happening at home! Students should refer to this link when they are absent from class or just when they need some extra help. Years ago, I began using my iPad to create several “help” videos! A vast majority of my students have commented on how HELPFUL these videos have been! I hope to get back to this practice again this year at WHS.
