Thur 8/14  Warm-up [focus on “negative” issues and use of “( )”]; used clickers to post four m/c problems; answered questions on the hmwk; turned in hmwk; “Solve Me Maybe” video, solved equations at the board; not enough time for roundtable activity with solving equations…just did the Cookies problem as a class; handed out assignment (with answers included again): Read 1.3 do pg 21 #2, 5, 10, 13, 18, 20, 31, 38, 39, 48.
Fri 8/15 Click here for the Friday in class resource!!!!   Warm-up (no solution problem, machinist “bolt” problem); Handed back homework and “Hartman’s worked out solutions”; time to compare last night’s work, answer some questions, and turn in. Showed the resource video!; partner coach (not enough time in Aug, 2014); Read 1.4 do pg. 29 #5, 8, 11, 17, 21, 22, 24, 38, 41, 44. There is a chapter 1 test planned for Tuesday!!! I suggest you read ahead and look at section 1.5!!!
Mon 8/18 Warm-up (various absolute value problems to set the stage for today); Handed back 1.3 hmwk; Students posted work for 1.4 around the room; Student “self-assessment” for a grade. Moved on….Notes and examples and board work for 1.5 absolute value EQUATIONS (click here for notes from 2012-13 school year) AND notes and examples and partner coch for absolute value INEQUALITIES (click here for notes from 2012-13 school year). Read 1.5 do pg 36 #1, 4, 5, 7, 16, 20, 22, 26, 46; Worked out solutions for the 1.5 assignment are here (click HERE.) Review sheet handed out for tomorrow’s test…..worked out solutions for the review here; Dr. Hartman has a meeting in the morning; thus if you need help…form a study group with one another (and utilize the resources on this page!) The test is tomorrow covering 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5.
Tue 8/19 Final questions before the test (a couple abs. value inequal. from yesterday’s partner coach); Chap 1 test; 2.1 preview packet to fill out by tomorrow
Wed 8/20 NASA mathematician video; went over page 1 of the test; Guess my function and CBR (motion ranger); went over the preview packet…addressing many concepts from 2.1. QQT with functions; GRAPH video to “teach” slope-intercept form. Board work. do 2.1 pg 59 #12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 36, 38, 53 and do pg. 67 #1, 4, 6, 11, 16, 20,25, 26, 66 and graph  y+3=-2(x-2)
Thu 8/21 Warm up (matching sheet); Went over the abs. value questions off the test; Questions on the hmwk (will finish it up tonight); Talked about how to graph an equation in standards form and point slope form; Warm up (UNL Costs)…set the stage for…..Talking about writing the equation of a line from a table, from a graph, given a point and slope, and given two points. Revisited the UNL cost problem. Homework: start the “white” packet; Click here if you want help looking at the “pink” note packet. Fri 8/22 Warm up (finished the matching sheet); Cleaned up the “stuff” from this week…graphing horiz/vert lines…looking at perpendicular and parallel lines…revisiting writing the equation (in all 3 forms) from 2 points….Turned in Wed’s hmwk….tests back…time to work on the homework packet handed out yesterday!  Finish the hmwk packet. The test is on Wednesday!
Mon 8/25 Warm-up (graph y = abs x with a table….used the table to generate the V shape); Talked about the basics of Calc 101…and how to graph an absolute value function; Used the calculator to discover the “a,” “h,” and “k” transformations. Looked at a couple specific examples of listing the transformations / graphing; Answered a couple of questions off the homework packet Assignment: finish up the packet; Do the worksheet on 2.5/2.6; Worked out solutions for tonight’s 2.5/2.6 hwmk: click HERE….  Remember the test is Wednesday
 Tue 8/26 Warm-up (talked about “how” to graph an abs value equation); ACT/DCA clicker problem (#23); Board work with graphing abs. value equations and linear equations; Reviewed the boundary point method for solving/graphing an abs. value inequalities (only in the variable of “x”)…THEN used the boundardy point method to graph linear inequalities and abs. value inequalities (in the variables of “x” and “y”) Read 2.7 do pg 104 #1, 5, 15, 42, 48 and work on the review sheet (click here for the worked out ipad video for the review) Test is tomorrow! Some turned in last night’s worksheet. Some also turned in the big 2.1-2.4 packet. NOTE: The review sheet had some missing formulas….Click REVIEW SHEET if you want to download a better one!!!

Thu 8/28 Warm up (supply and demand problem from pg 123 #55): used clickers (59, 58) and partner work (46-48) and the worksheet from last night to “teach” the section. partner Mini-White board work; 3.1 pg 120 #2, 3, 5, 13-16, 37 AND 3.3 pg 136 #4, 5, 7, 9, 16, 20, 30, 45; Use graph paper
Fri 8/29 Students compared hmwk; Warm up (solve an application with a system of inequalities); Tests back; All I Do is Solve…you tube video; Notes and examples on 3.2 (solving systems using the elimination and substitution methods)…; forum rotation partner work; Read 3.2 do pg 128 #1, 3, 8, 9, 18, 20, 24, 36 and then do 30, 35 and then do 15, 16, 17  Click here for a helpful video for elimination and substitution
Tue 9/2 Warm up (Checks and Coffee problems); answered some questions on the 3.1/3.3 and 3.2 assignments; be ready to turn them in tomorrow; Level challenge for graphing!; Review sheet handed out. Video for the review is here; Chapter 3 test is tomorrow; Chap 1-3 retest will be next Monday.
Wed 9/3  Warm up (Clicker NeSA problem related to chapter 2); Went over last problem on the level challenge; turned in chap 3 hmwk (with homework self assessment); Chap 3 test; reading sheets for 5.1 and 5.2 for hmwk (also do 5.1 pg 241 #1, 2, 3, 11, 45, 46, 47 and 5.2 pg 248 #1, 3, 10, 28); Retest is next Monday
Thu 9/4 Notes and info on 5.1-5.2; Graded part of the chapter 3 test; handed back old chap 1 & 2 tests to look over; started to review for the chap 1-2-3 retest: tonight…BEGIN working on the 5.1-5.3 graphing sheet (you can do 2/3 of it now). 2. Fri 9/5 Warm-up graphing a quadratic (given in standard form) and solving an application problem); Discussed graphing the vertex form of a quadratic equation y=a(x-h)^2+k; Chap 3 tests back; Time to work: 1. Keep working on the 5.1-5.3 graphing sheet (you can do all of it now). 2. Work on the review sheet.
Mon 9/8 Clicker NeSA problem (14a); Cumulative 1-3 retest….hmwk: FINISH the worksheet (5.1-5.3) given out on Thursday of last week!
Tue 9/9 We did a “group of 3” warm up at the boards (graphing quadratic equations and solving a “word problem”) right away; Addressed the fact that (x+5)^2 is NOT equal to x^2+25; Addressed taking a vertex and a point and writing the equation of a quadratic (see example 2 on page 253); Set the stage for factoring (5.4) using a “X” puzzle; Short individual formative quiz (similar to the group warm-up); Do pg 248 #11, 42, 74, 75 and Do pg. 255 #3, 25, 43, 45, 51, 53, 75, 77
Wed 9/10 Clicker NeSA problem (more 14; and wheelbarrow); handed back quiz….click HERE for a video going over the quiz (graphing quadratics in standard form and vertex form…as well as an application); took a question on the homework; turned in hmwk; Teach Me How To Factor video; notes on factoring; level challenge with factoring. Hmwk: Read 5.4 do pg 263 #3-45 (by 3’s) and 51-63 (by 3’s)
Thu 9/11 Warm up (finished the level challenge for factoring); Notes and examples on 3 methods to solve quadratic functions: A) Factoring and the zero product property, B) Square roots (when there is not “bx” term), and C) Graphing (and finding the zeros). do 5.5 pg 270 #1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 31, 48, 51, 65. Fri 9/12  Partner coach (factoring and solving); answered a couple questions; Students turned in pg 263 (5.4); Board work; Graphing application problem (others on the sheet…but only time for #1); Work on the 11 critical problems this weekend!
Mon 9/15 Clicker warm up (5); Warm up with solving (x+3)^2=9 and the area of a triangle problem; Board work to intro add/subt/mult “i’ problems; set the stage for why we need “i” (notesheet to guide); notes on solving with “i;” READ 5.6 do pg 278 #1, 3, 5, 11, 13, 14, 29, 34, 36, 40, 41, 44, 46
Tue 9/16 Work day; A. partners/trios worked through about 9 QQT cards related to “i;” B. Students turned in the 5.5 pg 270 book assignment; C. Students turned in missing homework; D. The solutions to the critical “11” problems from the weekend were posted around the room–students “graded” their own and gave themselves a self-assessment score; E. Students compared the answers to last night’s hmwk; F. The bulk of the time was devoted to working on the goldenrod chapter 5 checkpoint. (Finish the checkpoint for hmwk tonight). Wed 9/17 Warm-up: Mid Quarter Self Reflection; Notes and examples on solving by completing the square and converting to vertex form. (Used several “exhibits” like in a courtroom to set the stage for today’s very important topic!)  Read 5.7 do pg 285 #7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 28, 31
Thur 9/18 Warm-up: Rectangle problem; Answer keys out for the hmwk; Finished up the chapter…The Quad Song; Notes on the Quadratic Formula / Discriminant; Roundtable; Closure sheet to the chapter; Work on a few quadratic formula problems: Pg 293 #3, 7, 13, 32, 35, 42, 56; Work on the chap 5 review (click here for video help for levels 1&2 and click here for video help for levels 3-6). Click here to download the review sheet. Chap 5 test is Monday; we are starting chapter 6 on Friday.
Fri 9/19 Warm-up: Begin working on chapter 6 (standard form, classifying polynomials, adding-subtracting-multiplying polynomials); Time to look over the answer keys from the homework…self assessment on 5.7-5.8. Began to investigate end behavior (handed out notesheet); Finally, did a brief review of chapter 5…handed out a list of things to know! Study this weekend. The chapter 5 exam is Monday.
Mon 9/22 Warm-up: Another perspective of end behavior; Chap 5 exam; Hmwk: A. Read 6.1; B. Read pg. 312; C. Do pg 309 #1-7 odd, 33, 35, 41, 48, 50, 56; D. Do #1-8 on the end behavior worksheet!
Tue 9/23 Warm up (Clicker 16a/b/c); Showed “i” on calc; looked at def. of a polynomial; time to compare hmwk; answered a question off of homework….really started to get into 6.2….half went to the board to mult each time…. Looked at multiplying polynomials. Looked the relationship between the factored form of a polynomial function and its zeros. Used factored form, zeros, and end behav to sketch graphs (need to bring in y-int). Hmwk: Finish 309 (classification, add/subtr, mult); Finish End behav worksheet; Start doing worksheet (sketching polynomials); Use pg 315 out of the book and your calculator to explore multiplicity!!! Try to come into class knowing what’s going on with multiplicity
Wed 9/24 Warm up (used our calc to find the zeros/max/min/window of an “ugly” cubic function); Turned in pg 309 and pg 312 book work; Answered questions on the worksheet; addressed multiplicity on the worksheet (finish the worksheet tonight!); Moved on to look to look at special factoring of polynomials in standard form…spent time at the board developing this!; Hmwk: Do pg 330 #21, 22, 25, 27, 30, 47, 48, 52, 56 as well as pg 317 #2, 10, 18, 26, 34  (and finish up the worksheet from yesterday)
Thur 9/25 Warm up (used calc to find zeros/max/min….of an “ugly” quartic function); Chap 5 tests back..went over them; N.O.W. (no opportunity wasted video)…reminded students about online resources: Khan, Textbook, my website…Reviewed elementary “long division” at the boards; Notes and examples with LONG division of polynomials. Read 6.3 Do pg 324 #1, 3, 5, 37, 38, 40 and then 9, 10, 23… Note the ex. cred. opportunity is still down. Chap 6 Khan resources:  Click here for some links.
Fri 9/26 Warm-up #1 on front side of notesheet; Reviewed long division; Made some connections/set the stage for next week; Notes on synthetic division; Backside of notesheet; Time to work!!! Do pg 324 #13, 15, 22, 38…then turn in…THEN work on the chapter 6 check point review sheet. Mon 9/29 Warm up (DCA-NeSA clicker 12); Pairs worked a problem at the board to check whether or not a factor was really a factor (set the stage for p/q); Looked at the big picture: Goal for chap 6 (had “cards” to put up on the white board); At the boards: solved the problems we already know how to); At our seats: learned how to solve problems using the “p/q bank” and “division”…started to get into some of the other KEYS (will finish up tomorrow); Read 6.5-6.6 do pg 339 #3, 4, 7, 12, 13, 17, 19, 21, 37, 38
Tue 9/30 Warm up (ans keys out for last night’s work); Lots of notes/examples with 6.5-6.6 (used graphic organizer); Continued the “capstone” of the course; Do pg. 343 #1, 2, 5, 7, 10-12, 22, 42; BIG test is on Thusday….since  tomorrow a late start day…there are extra times built in for students to study!!! i have placed answer keys for both the pg 339 and pg 343 assignments in the main office. You can pick one up and study in the commons during the late start tomorrow.

Fri 10/24 First: Click Here for help with LAST NIGHT’S 7.5 hmwk ….. today: partner coach with solving; “exploration” with graphing square root and cube root functions… Looked at domain/range, transformations; “table” approach; (not enough time for card matching activity); Revise quizzes this weekend (include a sentence explaining your error!!!); We will move on to Probability on Monday; the DCA is Tuesday; Test is now Thursday; READ 7.8 and Do pg 417 #3, 7, 8, 11, 17, 19, 21, 33, 38, 39, 44, 47, 73; click HERE for a video to help with the 7.8 hmwk!!!!
Mon 10/27 Application warm-up (Vol of sphere); Card matching activity (practice graphs of sq. roots and cube roots); Discussion about the basics of probability (Experimental, Theoretical, Notation, Sample Space, “0” to “1,” ((((didn’t have enough time to really develop— Dependent vs. Independent and Multiply to find the probability when it is Dep or Indep)…will come back to these on Tues or Wed)))); Do pg 42 #1, 2, 10-14, 17, 25, 26, 28-37, 39, 46, 47 AND DO pg 534 #1-7, 9….. DCA is Tues; Review sheet for Ch 7 will be given Tues; More with Probability on Wed; Chapter 7 exam on Thursday!

Wed 10/29 Lots today: Looked at “pass the pigs” and “bears;” discussed folding and using “boxes” on the DCA (compliments to several); Ameer Abdullah article…work hard!!; too many missing assignments right now…talked about the plan for tomorrow and for the next week; Time to compare the pg 42 and 534 hmwk; a few questions; looked over the notes again from Monday; looked at indep vs. dep. probabilities; QQT activity with domain and range and transformations for Sq. Rt. and Cb. Rt. graphs; looked at events that are mutual exclusive and the fundamental counting principle. New assignment: pg 534 #10-14, 16, 18, 20, 24-27, 31-40 and do pg 348 #1, 6, 7, 13?, 21? ….. students will have time to work on this assignment tomorrow in class! (following the chap 7 test). Tonight: focus on preparing for the chapter 7 test!!!!
Thur 10/30 Chap 7 exam; work on missing assignments and probability hmwk  (Dr. Hartman was on his daughter’s field trip!)
Fri 10/31 DCA clicker problems (S1: probability); put closure to mutual exclusive”ness;” Tests back / ans. key posted on elmo; LeBron’s new Nike video; Wiener dog racing videos; talking about permutations, nPr, and nCr; do pg 348 #1, 6, 7, 12, 13, 17, 19-22, 27, 29, 30, 32, 40, 46-49…. Mon 11/3 Info sheet outlining when to turn in “stuff;” get your clicker and find the mean/median of {7, 3, 15, 14, 10, 8}; Clicker problems (DCA w/ mutually exclusive and PIN number and softball team); reviewed 8C3; Looked at the stats of the DCA…how I chose what we work on; Notes and examples on stem and leaf plots, box plots, Quartiles, IQR, outliers, etc… (used our results from the 2 parts of the chapter 7 test as data sets); board work practice; clicker practice for block 2; The assignment for the next 2 days: Pg 664 #3, 5, 10, 14, 15, 19, 20, 25 AND Pg. 672 #1, 2, 5, 12, 17 AND Pg 695 #1-6, 9-16, 27
Tue 11/4 Warm up (mean/med/mode/range/min/Q1/med/Q3/max/IQR/ box plot / prove 2 is an outlier); finished up box plots; “fun” quiz; finished discussion on “spread” from the median perspective; moved to the “spread” from the mean perspective; standard deviation; used pg 669 to help learn about it; showed test scores again and the stand. dev. each each part (higher the spread; higher the stand. dev. and lower the spread; lower the stand. dev); analyzed our fun quiz and compared it with “plinko” (website); moved to the Normal Distribution (bell curve); talked about the percentages and standard deviations with that….assignment was posted yesterday; tomorrow will be review day; Thursday will be the test.
Wed 11/5 Warm up (pg 670 top…problem….find the standard dev. by hand; check by looking at 670). Wrapped up the normal distribution and “skewed” (used the plinko app again); partner rotation at the boards to review; Work on the review sheet. Click here and here for the videos that go along with the review!!!!
Thur 11/6 (Code Red block 2); Prob/Stats test; Homework: practice 7.1-7.4 problems (to prepare for retest) and a few chap 8.1-8.2 problems (to prepare for Friday)…also gave the “goldenrod” note sheet to help make sense w/ 8.1-8.2 (students will “fill in the blank”); also handed back Chap 7 tests for students to look at. Retest is scheduled for next Wednesday
Fri 11/7 Paper folding (mission impossible); TED video on paper folding; set the stage for chapters 8 & 9; looked at the ans. key of the test; “fish” applet; Forbes article; basics of 8.1-8.2 with graphing; 2 examples for notes (including domain/range/asymp and transformations); Partner coach activity for reviewing 7.1-7.4; homework: Graphing worksheet (with a few book problems as well); Fill out more of the goldenrod notesheet; start preparing for the retest!

Answers for the learning targets are here.  After 45 min, we graded the quiz in class, looked at the students’ posted work around the room, and “finally” discussed simplifying complex fractions!!!. Fri 3/19 Learned about computing the standard deviation and looking at the normal distribution…a bit of calculator work as well….Reread 1.6, 9.7, 6.7, 12.3, 12.4, and 12.6…do pg 672 #4, 5 and do pg 695 #5, 6, 9-16, 27….COMPLETE THE TAKE HOME QUIZ….must be done when you come to class on Monday!!!! Tue 4/7  Went over the Prob (ex cred) and Stats (ex cred) results…addressed the most frequently missed problems. Did the same with the DCA most frequently missed problems. Some review time for tomorrow’s test. Work on the review and watch the video (posted yesterday). Some students missed due to the NeSA-R.
 Wed 4/8  Looked at the “Algebra 1” properties of exponents test (and the exponential growth/decay test) as a warm-up….lots of time for the chapter 7 exam…time to start prepping for chapter 8. Two different “worksheets” to get started with previewing for chapter 8. Extra credit window opened BACK up for prob/stats…via synergy
Thur 4/9  Paper folding; TED video on paper folding; set the stage for chapters 8 & 9;  basics of 8.1-8.2 with graphing; examples for notes (including domain/range/asymp and transformations); Partner coach activity for reviewing 7.1-7.4; homework: All do Pg 435 #16-23, 60, 62 and Pg 442 #12, 14…make sure you label asymptotes and state domain/range… Those of you who were coached during partner coaching: Do pg 848 #1, 3, 9, 11, 15, 21, 23, 24, 14
 Fri 4/10 Finished partner coaching from yesterday; talked about the NeSA testing plan for Monday/Wednesday; Spent time with 8.1-8.2 (writing the exponential function given two points); partner coaching with solving from chapter 7; Weekend: A. Do pg 435 #10, 12, 14….B. Get caught up with missing hmwk….C. Do the extra credit!!! The big retest is next Thursday
Mon 4/13 11th graders were out for the first 60 minutes for NeSA testing….Non-juniors: Partner coach to prepare for retest; looked through both of our old tests….ALL: Practice with on how to write an exponential function given 2 points; General notes on Exponential functions (new amt = initial amount x (return rate) ^ time)….growth (1+r) and decay (1-r); difference between growth/decay rate and growth/decay factor; difference between appreciation and depreciation; a few examples, including the “bears” problem…..; Tonight: do pg 435…#38, 39, 43, 57, 58……Handed out the review for the cumulative: Click for Probability review; Click for Statistics review; Click for 7.1-7.4 / 7.5 review; Click for 7.8 review. Mon 4/20 Mad Minute Warm-up w/ rewriting logs and simplifying logs….Graded the quiz in class….Went over a few questions from the 8.3 worksheet; LOTS of work related to properties of logs; notes on properties of logs; practice problems; 8.4 worksheet for homework. (tomorrow is NeSA…there will be a 8.1-8.4 quiz)

Thur 4/23 Students posted solutions for hmwk around room; finished “applications” from 8.5; touched on the basics of 8.6 (essentially a remix of the whole chapter but using “e” the natural base AS the base and “LN” the natural log for all log work); Homework: a) read 8.5 and 8.5….b) do pg. 464 #23, 50, 51….c) do pg. 472 #5, 6, 16, 26, 39, 62, 67-69…..d) review chapter 8 graphing and compound interest and 1/2 life….e) clean up missing work!!!…..f) just study as there is a big test on Monday!
