Tue 9/3 | Recapped #31 from Friday; Read pp. 43, 44; Decide on the number of classes (bins) you think are appropriate for the data set: 36, 25, 38, 46, 55, 68, 72, 55, 36, 38, 67, 45, 22, 48, 91, 46, 52, 61, 58, 55; Create a frequency table for the data, a relative freq. table for the data, and a histogram for the data. We then did a bit of research…using your phone, research the “2^k” rule for classes. Discussed the “2^k” rule and then used our calculator to build the histogram. Hmwk: Take notes on the first part of chapter 3…pp. 43-53…do more research with histograms and the “2^k” rule |

Thur 9/5 | Collected snake eyes data in all periods; made a stem and leaf plot for the data, talked about why the dot plot would be “bad”, and found mean, median, mode, range…started to hint about stdev and IQR…also talked about how a skewed distr will impact the relationship between mean and median. Watched this video (HERE); Hmwk: finish reading the chapter and taking notes |

Tue 9/10 | Dr. Hartman talked and went over a bunch of things…discussed details of Ch 2 categorical methods to describe data…discussed details of Ch 3 quantitative methods including the importance of the histogram (to help with shape center and spread) and the basics again of Mean/STDEV vs Median/IQR…talked about how the indiv values of data show up for stem plots and dot plots…but not for histograms/box plots. We then spent the rest of our time with the details of BOX plots, finding outliers, and using our calculator; finish up #5-13 and add on 14-15 |
Wed 9/11 | Students computed the 5# summary and box plot for {5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13}; Looked at IQR lexile graph (Reading ability); Looked at descriptive stats in newspaper (Bats); then started to talk more about the details of standard deviation…basic words behind the scenes and then calculated one by hand and showed where it is on the calculator.
