Fri 8/17 Warm-up (no solution problem); Scavenger hunt; discussed inequalities (reversing the symbol when mult/div by a negative); partner coach; discussion about compound inequalities (movie admission, speeding tickets, stewardess from 1950’s); looked at solving one complicated “and” problem; turned in hmwk and turned in inventory; Read 1.4 do pg. 29 #5, 8, 11, 17, 21, 22, 24, 38, 41, 44. Wed 8/22 Warm-up: guess my function; went over the note packet; forum activity with the graphing calculator and motion ranger; notes on slope intercept form & graphing; partner practice on mini-white boards; challenge at the end of class: how do you graph 3x-2y=12 and y-3=-2(x+1); do 2.1 pg 59 #12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 36, 38, 53 and do pg. 67 #1, 4, 6, 11, 16, 20, 26, 66 and graph  y+3=-2(x-2)
Thur 8/23 Warm-up (how do you graph 3x-2y=12 and y-3=-2(x+1)…students converted to y=mx+b like expected!)  Notes on the three different forms of linear equations (slope intercept form, standard form, and point slope form), addressed horizontal and vertical lines, Answered questions on the hmwk; notes on writing the equation of a line (from table, from graph, from a given point and slope, and from 2 given points); application problem with UNL costs; hwmk packet! (tests back as well)
Fri 8/24 Note: students were expected to have their books covered by today; Aver 70% did NOT. Thus, valuable instructional time was lost due to covering them in class. Warm up: Linear problem related to the cost of postage stamps (finding slope, finding equations, predicting); Time to work on the packet from yesterday (1st block: 10th and then 11th graders had to leave for a while to attend the class meeting with Mr. Slauson). Hmwk: finish the packet, do the graphing calculator activity. Chapter 2 test will be on Wednesday!
Mon 8/27 Warm-up (solve and graph abs value of (2x+3) – 5 less than or equal to 10); Students told me which problems they had problems with on the packet….click here to see explanations for those problems!; looked at the basic graph of y = abs x (used a table to generate the V shape); asked students what they learned about “a,” “h,” and “k” from the calculator activity over the weekend. Used a geogebra app to lead through the notes of a/h/k. Used a second geogebra app to visualize what transformed graphs may look like; looked at a couple specific examples of listing the transformations / graphing; Time for the DCA #1; Assignment: finish up the packet; Do the worksheet on 2.5/2.6; Worked out solutions for tonight’s 2.5/2.6 hwmk: click here   Remember the test is Wednesday

Wed 9/5 Finished Friday’s partner practice sheet for the warm-up (application problems); answered questions before the test; went over the graphing challenge activity from yesterday; turned in the chapter 3 bookwork; Chap 3 test; reading sheets for 5.1 and 5.2 for hmwk (also do 5.1 pg 241 #1, 2, 3, 11, 45, 46, 47 and 5.2 pg 248 #1, 3, 10, 28)
Thu 9/6 Partners got “worked out” notes/answers to look at from last night’s hmwk; We went over the basics of 5.1 and 5.2. Remember the key is (-b/2a). Spent half of the class reviewing at the boards for the cumulative 1-3 retest, which will be on Monday. Hmwk: work on the 5.1-5.3 graphing sheet.
Fri 9/7 Warm up (taking two points and finding all three forms of a linear equation); Went over some of the hmwk worksheet; WORK MORE ON THE 5.1-5.3 WORKSHEET THIS WEEKEND; more review time at the boards; Tests back…time to look at them….Cumulative test is Monday; Gave a review sheet. Mon 9/10 Went over 1 problem from front side and 1 (book problem) from back side of the 5.1-5.3 worksheet. Cumulative 1-3 test. Finish the 5.1-5.3 worksheet (front side and book problems off of back side); Read 5.3 from text and attempt some of the backside problems. KNOW about 5.1 and 5.2…what the shape of the graph looks like…what it’s called…how to tell if an equation is a quadratic..what the key is (from standard form)…how to find the vertex….how to decide if the graph has a max or a min, etc….LOTS of things we need to know about the first part of chapter 5!!!
Tue 9/11 Warm up (application problem with finding max); brainstormed all we know about “a,h, and k;” used geogebra to show connections between the vertex form of absolute value and the vertex form of a quadratic equation; notes and examples with 5.3; Guided practice at the boards; Puzzle “x” factoring problems to close; hmwk: finish the worksheet!!! and do pg 255 #3, 9, 21, 26, 51, 53, 74

Wed 9/19 Warm up (area of rectangles/squares); Clickers with NeSA/ACT prep: problem 2; found out what questions students have on the chap 5 checkpoint; Turned in the chap 5 checkpoint so we could see how much was done; Notes and examples on solving by completing the square and converting to vertex form. Read 5.7 do pg 285 #7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 28, 31
Thur 9/20 Warm up (completing the square); The quad song; moved on to the quadratic formula; practice/examples…. Adele’s song.  Hmwk: A. know how to use the quadratic formula. B. Spend time working on the green chap 5 check point sheet (click here for video help). C. Work on the chap 5 review (click here for video help for levels 1&2 and click here for video help for levels 3-6). The test is Monday; however we are moving on to chapter 6 tomorrow. Remember there is an extra help session scheduled for Fri at 7:40 and again on Monday at 7:40 in B103.
Fri 9/21 NeSA/ACT warmup with Right Tri Trig; notes and information on polynomials, classification of polynomials, addition/subtraction of polynomials, (mult of poly), and end behaviors. Quiz/Quiz/Trade activity; polynomial formative check; and end behav sheets handed out; Assignment: read 6.1 do pg 309 #1-7 odd, 33, 35, 41, 48, 50, 56;  Remember the chapter 5 test is on Monday; videos are posted in yesterday’s information; also a help session is happening on Monday at 7:40

Tues 9/25 Warm up: polynomial subtraction, classification, and end behavior. Looked at multiplying polynomials. Board work practice. Looked the relationship between the factored form of a polynomial function and its zeros. Used factored form, zeros, end behav, and y-int to sketch graphs. Hmwk: Finish 309 (classification, add/subtr, mult); Finish 312 (end behav); Do worksheet (sketching polynomials); Use pg 315 out of the book and your calculator to explore multiplicity!!! Try to come into class knowing what’s going on with multiplicity
Wed 9/26 Warm up: identify “parts” of a quartic graph; NeSA-ACT prep (#9); Turned in pg 309 and pg 312 book work; Answered questions on the worksheet; addressed multiplicity on the worksheet (finish the worksheet tonight!); Moved on to look to look at special factoring of polynomials in standard form; Hmwk: Do pg 330 #21, 22, 25, 27, 30, 47, 48, 52, 56 as well as pg 317 #2, 10, 18, 26, 34

Tue 10/2 Warm up (find the zeros given a polynomial and then write the polynomial given the zeros…focus on “conjugates”); Answered a  question off of hmwk; more notes/examples with 6.5-6.6; some board work; Revise last night’s work and add pg 343 #1, 2, 5, 7, 10-12, 22, 42; BIG test is on Thusday….since today is a PLC day and tomorrow a late start day…there are extra times built in for students to study!!!
